Dr. Gard is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in medical retina, with over 30 years of practice at the Hillsboro Eye Clinic. Born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in both the Northwest and Mid-South, Dr. Gard pursued his education in the region. He earned a college degree from Portland State University in 1983 and completed his medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University in 1988.
Following his medical education, Dr. Gard served an internship in internal medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital and went on to complete a three-year residency in ophthalmology. He continued his education through a yearlong fellowship in medical retina. In 1992, he joined the Hillsboro Eye Clinic, where he has been practicing ever since.
Dr. Gard has been deeply involved in the ophthalmology community. He has served as the President of the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology and previously held an Associate Clinical Professor appointment at Oregon Health Sciences University. He has also worked at the Portland Veterans Hospital, where he contributed to ophthalmology resident education. He is board-certified through the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds memberships in several professional organizations, including the Oregon Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Washington County Medical Society.
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Gard enjoys a well-rounded family life with his wife, Lisa, and their three children and several grandchildren. The family enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, biking, and skiing.
