Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive Lens Exchange

  • Involves removing the eye’s natural lens and placing a replacement intraocular lens (IOL)
  • Quick recovery time
  • Unlike laser vision correction, doesn’t alter corneal thickness or risk losing corrective effect
  • No future need for cataract surgery in eye(s) treated with RLE

What happens during RLE?

Refractive lens exchange removes the eye’s natural lens and replaces it with an intraocular lens.

Schedule Appointment

The procedure only takes 15 minutes per eye, and is performed on an outpatient basis.

Surgery will be performed on each eye separately, one to two weeks apart. The procedure itself is essentially identical to cataract surgery, but is performed before a cataract develops. There are multiple intraocular lens options, which you will discuss with your surgeon at your evaluation.
